Road Rank is free on Google Play for Android phones. Search for Road Rank: Driving Tracker, or use the Get it on Google Play button on this site. An iPhone version is not available yet.

No gadget. Road Rank uses your phone GPS and motion. You can record drives without signing up. A display name and city are only needed if you join the leaderboard.

Each drive starts at 100. You lose 4 points for every hard-braking event and 3 for every quick acceleration. A drive needs at least 300 m to get a score. The in-app breakdown shows exactly what cost you points.

Your rank is your average score over the last 30 days, weighted by distance. You need at least 3 drives and 30 km in that window. Every drive is checked on the server.

No. The leaderboard shows a display name, score, distance and the location you choose. Your email and exact routes are never shown to others.

While a drive is recording, Android shows a notification so recording continues when you switch apps or the screen turns off. Recording only happens for drives you start, and location is not collected when no drive is running.

No. It is an estimate for your own improvement and for fun. It is not a safety rating and is not shared with insurers.

Recording, scores, trip history and the leaderboard are free. Pro is $3.99 per month or $24.99 per year in the US, billed through Google Play, with local prices in other countries. Cancel any time in Google Play.

Only numbers about a drive are used, such as distance, time, speeds, event counts and score. No names, places or routes are sent.

You can export or delete your data in the app. There is also a delete-account page linked in the footer.

Never interact with the app while driving. Start it before you set off or let a passenger handle it.
